YES TO POSHAN

Malnutrition is a complex public health problem with intergenerational repercussions.

According to the National Family Health Survey-5 (NHFS-5), there was an increase in the prevalence of acute malnutrition in 16 out of 22 states and stunting in 13 out of 22 states among children < 5 years of age in comparison to NHFS-4.

High levels of malnutrition among children in India can be highly attributed to the poor nutrition of women before and during pregnancy. The urgent need to ensure adequate nutrition in women and children in India prompted the government’s Poshan Abhiyaan to reduce the incidence of stunting, undernutrition in children and anaemia amongst women and children.

Interventions include a five-fold behaviour change campaign, surveys, growth monitoring, and capacity building of Anganwadi workers and Poshan Sakhis to promote diet diversity.

Through 700+ home visits, our Poshan Sakhis identified and treated 120+ malnourished children. 2000+ women were trained on diet diversity through Participatory Learning Action (PLA)

Through our interventions ~70% women are consuming more than 5 food groups through 210 household nutri-gardens.

We also launched a nutritional recipe book for pregnant women which was endorsed by the Disctrict Collector of the NTR disctrict and now, 30+ recipe books are accessible to all 1470 Anganwadis in the district.
